114 Taliban rebels killed in fresh ops

KABUL: At least 114 Taliban militants have been killed and 24 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said Wednesday.

Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Kandahar, Baghlan, Helmand, Daykundi, Ghazni, Kapisa, Takhar, Wardak and Hera  province, in which 114 militants were killed and 24 others wounded.

Afghan security forces also arrested 13 militants including 11 suspects and handed them over to the judicial organs for further inquiry.

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 30 Taliban insurgents were killed, seven wounded, three including one suspect detained, two vehicles, 11 motorbikes, 14 fighting positions, one tunnel and several suicide vests were destroyed, some advertising documents were seized, and 10 rounds IEDs were discovered and defused in Miansheen and Maiwand districts of Kandahar—30 militants including Qari Ishaq Gujur a Taliban local commander were killed, six wounded and 8 rounds of IEDs discovered and defused in Khwaja, Shahar Naw areas of the Dahana Ghori district of Baghlan—19 rebels were killed and one suspect was arrested, one vehicle and amount of weapons and munitions were destroyed in Marja, Nad Ali and Nawzad districts of Helmand

11 insurgents including Mawlavi Abdul Wasay Taliban shadow district governor for Nawzad district of Helmand province were killed, four wounded and one vehicle was destroyed in Kujran district of Daykundi—eight militants were killed, four wounded, one vehicle and four motorbikes destroyed in Dehyak, Andar and Gelan districts of Ghazni—six rebels were killed, one injured and nine suspects arrested in Nijrab district of Kapisa province.

Similarly, five insurgents were killed, two wounded in Dasht Qala and Ishkamish districts of Takhar—three militants were killed, one hideout, one vehicle packed with explosive destroyed in Nirkh, Daimirdad, Sayed Abad districts and capital of Maidan Wardak and two insurgents were killed, amount of weapons and ammunition confiscated and one motorbike destroyed in Kishak Kohna district of Herat province.

In past 24 hours, 16 planed clearing operations, and Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army, including 21 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.
