13 Taliban killed in Kunduz

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 13 Taliban insurgents have been killed and five other received injuries during a clash with Afghan security forces in Khanabad district of northern Kunduz province, officials said on Sunday. The clash took place in Janat Bagh area of the district.

A reliable source in the National Directorate of Security (NDS) told Pajhwok Afghan news the firefight erupted between the security forces and insurgents in Janat Bagh area of the district, in which 13 Taliban insurgents were killed and five others wounded.

He added that notorious Pakistan commanders, Mullah Jan and Mullah Alaudin, Mullah Almas were among the killed Taliban insurgents.

“Janat Bagh area is very important to us, because a threat to Khanabad district always emanated from here. But now we have occupied,” the NDS official added.

Abdul Hai, a resident of the area said a fierce clash took place in Khanabad district on Saturday. “Both sides suffered heavy casualties.”

The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the in incident, claiming that eight Afghan security forces and two Taliban fighters were killed. He also claimed of blowing up a tanker belongs to Afghan security forces.

However, Kunduz is one of the insecure provinces in northern Afghanistan. A few months ago the Taliban insurgents had captured Qala-e-Zal district, but it was for short period of time. The Afghan security forces recaptured the district in shortest time.
