135 rebels dead in offensives, airstrikes
AT-KABUL: At least 135 militants have been killed and 98 others sustained injuries in recent military crackdowns that targeted militant strongholds in the past two days.
In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense, (MoD) said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal has conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Helmand, Kandahar, Farah, Urzgan, Nimroz and Logar provinces.
Statement said that in these operations 135 insurgents were killed and 96 others wounded.
Afghan forces arrested five insurgents and handed over them to relevant judicial organs for further inquiry.
The joint Afghan operation was supported by airstrike.
During these operations in the past 24 hours, 52 Taliban fighters were killed in Balablok and Anardara districts of Farah, 25 insurgents were killed in Marja, Nadali and Kajaki districts of Helmand, 19 terrorists including four commanders were killed in Waghez district of Ghazni, 18 rebels were killed in Chora and Khasuruzgan district of Urzgan, 11 Taliban fighters were killed in Panjwaee and Shah Walikot districts of Kandahar, eight terrorists were killed in Khashroad district of Nimroz and two insurgents were killed in Khoshi district of Logar province.
Similar, 96 other terrorists were killed during operations.
In past 24 hours, 14 planed clearing operations, and number of Special Forces operations conducted in 11 provinces; also, Air forces conducted aerial operations supporting Afghan National army including strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.
ANA discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.
