27 students held over supporting Daesh, Taliban in Nangarhar

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Twenty seven university students of Nangarhar University have been detained for carrying Taliban and Daesh flags during a protest rally in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.

On 10th November, a number of university students staged protest in which they were carrying flags of Islamic State, also known as Daesh, and Taliban in Jalalabad City, the provincial capital.  They were also chanting anti-government slogan during the demonstration. The protestors torn down the flag of Afghanistan with shouting “long live the Islamic Caliphate”.

The governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani said that security forces in a raid on Nangarhar University hostel on Monday night, detained 27 students for investigation.

Without giving further details he said that operation was conducted when security forces received order from the governor office.

Confirming the report, the University Chancellor, Babrak Miakhail, said that 27 students were arrested by security forces for investigation.

Lawmakers in parliament and civil society activists asked the government to take stern action against the organizer of the rally.
