31 Taliban rebels killed in fresh military crackdowns

KABUL: At least 31 Taliban militants have been killed and 17 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said Tuesday.

Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Uruzgan, Herat, Zabul, Ghazni, Parwan, Ghor, Nimroz and Helmand provinces, in which 31 militants were killed and 17 others wounded.

Afghan security forces succeeded to arrest 14 militants, including 10 suspects and handed them over to the related judicial organs for further inquiry.

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 20 Taliban insurgents killed, four wounded, six rounds of IEDs, 110 kg explosives, one RPG (rocket), 90 rounds of hand making IEDs, eight bunkers, six tunnels of the underground were discovered and destroyed and some advertising documents were seized in Khas-Uruzgan district and Trinkot the capital of Uruzgan—four militants killed and 12 others wounded in Oba district of Heart—four rebels killed and one shelter was destroyed in Trang and Jaldak districts of Zabul—two insurgents killed and another was wounded in Muqur district of Ghazni—one militant was killed, four others detained, one vehicle, three motorbikes were destroyed and 125 kg opium was confiscated in Hungarahn village of capital of Ghor province.

Similarly, eight suspects were arrested and amount of weapons and ammunition were seized in Bagram district of Parwan—two suspects arrested in Khashrod district of Nimroz, and two depots of IEDs, one hideout, one fighting position were destroyed and 200 rounds of IEDs were discovered and defused in Nahar Saraj district of Helmand province.

In past 24 hours, 18 planed clearing operations, and Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army including two strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.
