AT-KABUL: At least 33 Taliban insurgents were killed and 54 others wounded in a military operation carried out by Afghan security forces in Hesarak district of eastern Nangarhar province, provincial official said.
“Two security personnel were also killed and nine others received injuries in the operation,” Provincial Governor’s Spokesman Attaullah Khogyanai told Afghanistan Times.
Currently, a massive operation is underway in different parts of the province in order to suppress the Taliban and other militants.
According to provincial officials, in the ongoing operation, dozens of Taliban militants and Islamic State fighters, also known as Daesh, were killed and wounded.
It is worth mentioning that at least 16 fighters, loyal to the Islamic State, or Daesh, were killed in separate airstrikes in the same province.
In a press statement issued here, the Ministry of Defense said, that these airstrikes targeted militants in Kot and Achin districts of the province.
A vehicle belonging to Daesh militants was also destroyed along with a PK machinegun.
