36 Taliban rebels killed in latest military stings

KABUL: At least 36 Taliban militants have been killed and 13 others received injuries during latest crackdowns conducted in southern Kandahar and eastern Nangarhar provinces in the past 24 hours.

The Taliban fighters had planned to attack Afghan security posts in Zherai and Arghandab district of Kandahar, which faced counterattack through active defense posture, the ministry of defense said on Sunday.

Around 28 Taliban insurgents were killed and seven others wounded in the attack.

Three motorbikes of the enemy seized and a vehicle of them with some weapons and ammunition were also destroyed in the districts, noted the statement.

In another military operation, eight Taliban insurgents were killed in eastern Nangarhar province.

Taliban gathered to attack Afghan security forces checkpoint in Bati Kot district of the province, which were targeted by Afghan forces through active defense posture, the statement added.

“Eight Taliban rebels were killed and six other wounded in the attack.”
