39 Taliban rebels killed in fresh ops

KABUL: The Afghan security forces have launched large scale military raids across the country in the past 24 hours, killing at least 39 Taliban rebels while 28 others were wounded, defense ministry said on Sunday.

The operations were conducted as part of the counterattacks by the Afghan security forces in Nangarhar, Laghman, Ghazni, Kandahar, Zabul, Herat, Farah and Balkh provinces, the ministry said in a statement.

Some 34 rounds of mines, which were planted on the roadsides by the Taliban were discovered and defused, added statement.

Also, enough amounts of weapons and ammunition of the enemy destroyed during the crackdown conducted by the Afghan security forces in the mentioned provinces, the statement added.
