535 rebels killed, 470 drug smugglers detained in past 20 days: MoI

KABUL: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Saturday said that 535 militants have been killed, 163 others wounded and 470 drug smugglers were detained during joint operation of the Afghan security forces within past 20 days.

In a briefing to newsmen, MoI Spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said that Afghan National Police in cooperation with National Army conducted 185 anti-insurgents crackdowns in the past 20 days, in which 535 rebels were killed and 163 others injured. “117 militants were also detained during these operations.”

He added that some 8600kg of explosives and 540 mines also discovered and confiscated during crackdowns.

Pointing to anti-drug clampdowns, Rahimi said 434 anti-narcotics crackdown conducted by Afghan forces in capital and provinces, in which 470 drug runners arrested and 51 tons of narcotics discovered and seized. Eight narcotics factories and five big drug caches were also destroyed.

Rahimi while ensuring people of reinforcing law over robbers, kidnapers land grabbers and the groups and individuals bullying, saying they won’t be safe anywhere.

In the past 20 days, 520 rifles of different weapons seized from different illegal armed individuals and groups who were engaged in robbery, kidnapping, killing and other crimes.

To ensure Kabul residents safety, he said that MoI would soon kick off serious anti-criminals campaign in Kabul city.
