60 freed from Taliban captivity: MoD

AT-KABUL: The Special Forces of the Afghan National Army (ANA) on Thursday night raided a Taliban-run prison in Nowzad district of southern Helmand province, the Ministry of Defense on Friday said in a media statement.

After securing the prison, the ANA freed 60 prisoners from Taliban captivity, the statement said. Two militants were killed and three others received injuries during the raid, the statement said.

The prison was running by the Talban shadow provincial governor, Abdul Rahman, also famous as Mullah Mannan, the statement said. Without giving further details, MoD said that ten motorcycles belonging to the militants were destroyed in the raid. Additionally, large amount of explosives were also seized.

However, the Taliban militants didn’t no comment into the matter so far.
