KABUL: A huge fire accident on the northern outskirts of Kabul city killed at least seven people, according to police information.

Tareq Aryan, spokesman of the ministry of interior said that the accident happened late Saturday in the Kariz Mir village in Kabul’s northern entrance, adding that an oil tanker caught fire and it quickly erupted to other oil and liquid gas tankers awaiting to enter the city late at night when traffic in Kabul is light.

‌According to Aryan, another 14 people were injured and taken to nearby medical facilities.

Tens of tankers have been burnt, according to police and eyewitnesses.

The reason of the accident was not clear and police are investigating.

The firing caused cut of electricity to Kabul residents as the air cables transmitting imported power from northern provinces to Kabul were cut at the area.

Earlier this year hundreds of oil tankers caught fire and destroyed in a similar accident in the western province of Herat at the Iranian border. The firing caused 50 million dollars loss to traders.
