AT-KABUL: At least seven people were killed and 46 others, mostly civilians, were wounded in a suicide truck-bombing in Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province, on Wednesday.
The attack took place at around 11:00am when an explosives-laden Mazda truck was rammed into the governor house in Lashkargah city, acting governor, Mohammad Jan Rassoulyar, told Afghanistan Times.
“Till now we have seven people confirmed dead and 46 mostly civilians injured” Rassoulyar said. The powerful blast destroyed several governmental buildings and nearby houses as well.
Several governmental officials were present in a meeting in conference hall during the attack.
Governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak, is among several officials injured in the attack including agriculture director, Nad Ali district chief, and former administrative head of Greshk.
Taliban claimed responsibility behind the attack. Group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told media that their suicide bomber has killed and injured several governmental officials.
