AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least seven Taliban militants were killed and 11 others injured during a gunfight with the Afghan Local Police (ALP) in southeastern Paktika province, said officials on Saturday.
The provincial deputy police chief, Col. Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the clashes erupted in Pirgoti area of Urgun district.
He said that the militants attacked police checkpoints and as a result the local police force killed seven militants and wounded 11 others in retaliation.
He said that the ALP recovered two Pakistani national identity cards from two of the killed militants.
A resident of the Urgun district, Juma Khan, said that a local policeman was also killed and another wounded in the gun battle.
The ALP also recovered weapons from the militants.
However, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that the militants had killed four ALP members and wounded three others. He confirmed the loss of some arms and ammunition.
Paktika is one of the restive provinces in the country where the Taliban militants usually carry their attacks against the security forces and civilians.
