AT-KABUL: At least 78 armed Taliban fighters were killed and 47 others were wounded in different crackdowns within the past 24 hours.
In a press release issued here, Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) has conducted clearance operations against insurgents in different areas of Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Kandahar, Uurzgan, Farah and Helmand provinces. In these operations 66 rebels were eliminated and 34 others injured.
According to the defense ministry, five ANA soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that 12 Taliban fighters were killed and 13 others wounded in different districts of Laghman, Kandahar, Khost, Paktiya, Farah and Helmand provinces.
Two insurgents were also arrested in the crackdowns by ANA and ANP and were handed over to the relevant judicial body for interrogation, added the statement. The ministries also claimed of recovering huge cache of weapons. However, no detail was provided.
