AT-KABUL: At least 12 people, including 10 Taliban attackers and two policemen, were killed and three cops received injuries in an attack on Greshk district headquarters of southwestern Helmand province.
Around ten militants armed with heavy and light weapons on Wednesday morning took positions in a building near the district headquarters. They started to target the district chief’s office and police headquarter.
All ten attackers were killed, an official source in Helmand told Afghanistan Times on the condition of anonymity.
“A heavy contingent of Afghan troops arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area and restricted the militants from moving to nearby buildings from their position,” the source said.
Two policemen were killed in the attack, for which the Taliban claimed responsibility and said several of their suicide bombers attacked the district police HQ.
Clearance operation continued till the filing of this report.
Greshk district is among secure districts of Helmand and is strategically important because of the Kandahar-Herat Highway.
