AT-KABUL: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah said that Pakistan could not be trusted to mediate peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban, unless the country ends its support to the Taliban militants.
Talking to a plenary session of the Council of Ministers (CoM), Abdullah said that recent remarks of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif showed that the country has no intention to fight against the Taliban militants. Abdullah cast doubt on Pakistan’s role in the peace process of Afghanistan and urged the country to stop its support to the Taliban militants.
This comes at a time that Nawaz Sharif during his visit to the United States gave it out that Pakistan was prepared to revive the stalled peace talks but could not bring the Taliban to the negotiating table and kill them at the same time.
The CEO of Afghanistan said that supporting militants in Afghanistan is not in interest of any country in the region. He added that Pakistan’s reluctance to fight against militants shows that the country is supporting insurgency in Afghanistan. “We ask Pakistan to play its role in fight against all militants without any exceptions,” Abdullah said.
He said that Daesh and their activities do not represent any religion.
