Afghan air force to get 12 more MD530Fs

MD Helicopters has received a firm order for 12 additional MD530F Cayuse Warrior armed scout helicopters for Afghanistan.

The deal was contracted via the US Army’s Non-Standard Rotary Wing, says MD Helicopters in a statement.

The US company says all 12 aircraft will be delivered in-theatre in less than 12 months.

They will be equipped with .50 calibre gun pods, 2.75 inch rocket capability, ballistics protection, tactical communications systems, and a fixed-forward sighting system.

They will add to 16 Cayuse MD530F Cayuse Warriors in Afghan service.

“The MD 530F has played an integral role in building the capabilities of the Afghan Air Force and the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces since the first aircraft arrived in Shindand in 2011,” said Lynn Tilton, Chief Executive Officer for MD Helicopters. (Flightglobal)
