Afghan forces inflict heavy casualties on Taliban

KABUL: At least 82 militants were killed and 23 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns within past 24 hours.

In a press release issued Sunday in Kabul, Ministry of Defense, (MoD) said that Afghan National Army (ANA) with the cooperation of Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel, conducted operations against insurgents in different area of Ghazni, Zabul, Takhar, Farah, Herat Helmand, Maidan Wardak, Paktika, Kunar, Kapisa, Balkh, Sar-e-Pul, Kunduz, Ghor and Kandahar provinces.

The statement said that in these operations 82 militants were killed and 23 others wounded.

Afghan forces arrested nine militants during operation and handed over them to judicial organs for further inquiry.

Afghan National and Defense Security forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations in the past 24 hours, 29 Taliban fighters were killed, two arrested and five vehicle of the enemy destroyed in Andar, Giro, Waez, Muqor and center of Ghazni, 14 insurgents were killed and two others arrested in Mizan district of Zabul, 11 rebels were killed, 12 wounded and three others arrested in Ishkashem and Baharak districts of Takhar, eight militants were killed and two others arrested in Balablok district of Farah, six insurgents were killed and six others wounded in Pashtoon Zarghon district of Herat province.  

Similar, eight militants were killed, three wounded, 59 strongholds of the enemy with 34 mines and some other ammunition destroyed in Nahr-e-Saraj, Sangeen and Garmsir districts of Helmand, three insurgents were killed two wounded in terwee district of Paktika and three rebels were killed in Jalriz district of Maidan Wardak province.

In past 24 hours, 15 planed clearing operations, and 81 Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air forces conducted 129 aerial operations supporting Afghan National army including 17 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

ANA discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.

ANA as the nation’s defense forces are ready to give sacrifice to bring lasting peace and security to the people and are determined to eradicate terror groups in Afghanistan.
