Afghan forces push back Taliban attack in Faryab, killing 53 rebels

KABUL: Afghan security forces have pushed back the Taliban attack in Pashtoon Kot district of northern Faryab province, killing dozens of its fighters.  

Taliban fighters carried a massive attack on Afghan National Army (ANA) forces checkpoints in Khwaja Namosi area of Pashtoon Kot district at around 8:30 on Saturday night, however, faced serious resistance from the Afghan forces, 209 Shaheen Army Corps said Sunday in a statement.   

Afghan forces with support by air forces have succeeded to push back the Taliban attack, and killed 53 Taliban militants in the area, the statement added.

Scores of key commanders of Taliban group, including Qari Alwdin, Sofi Hamidullah and Qari Mohammad Din were among the killed militants, the statement says, adding dozens other Taliban fighters were wounded.

The dead bodies of the Taliban militants left in the battlefield, some amount of weapons of the enemy were also seized, the statement added.
