Afghan Special Forces free 38 prisoners from Taliban jail

KABUL: An Afghan special forces raid freed 38 members of security forces from a Taliban jail in the volatile central-eastern province of Ghazni, the military said on Monday.

The rescue happened during a raid on a Taliban prison Sunday night in the area between Spin Klay and Ghat Klay villages in Ab Band district, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement. Those freed included also senior security personnel.

Ten insurgents were also killed in the operation while nine more were detained, the statement said. A depot of ammunition and explosives, an explosive-packed vehicle and four motorcycles were destroyed, it said.

No member of Afghan special forces was hurt in the raid, the statement said.
