KABUL: Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Idrees Zaman met with the Ambassador of the United States of America to Kabul Mr. John Bass, where they discussed important issues, including ongoing peace talks between US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and US negotiating team in Qatar.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement sent to Afghanistan Times on Wednesday, said both diplomats exchanged views over key issues in Kabul Process II Meeting.
“The two sides discussed peace negotiations between Ambassador Zalmai Khalilzad and the Taliban in Doha, the Kabul Process III Meeting, Heart of Asia meeting, trilateral mechanisms between Afghanistan and regional countries, and as well as the Consultative Peace Jirga,” the statement added.
This year, 2019, is an important period for Afghanistan, where it goes to experience another round of presidential election, with already incompetent electoral bodies, and to see the outcome of US brokered peace talks with the Taliban. The leadership of the National Unity Government time and again emphasized on intra-Afghan talks, citing executive power with the government only and kept asking Taliban group to come in the table of talks with them.
