Air strike kills Taliban shadow governor for Badakhshan

AT-KABUL: The Taliban’s shadow governor for northeastern Badakhshan province has been killed in an airstrike the other night, said an official source.

A military official said that the Taliban designated governor for Badkhshan, Maulvi Imamuddin, along with ten other militants has been killed in an airstrike in Jurm district of the province.

According to ToloNews, around 40 Taliban militants have been killed in Jurm district over the past 10 days.

Imamuddin is the third Taliban shadow governor killed this week. According to reports, the Taliban designated governor for eastern Nangarhar province was killed in Peshawar, while the group’s shadow governor for Kunar province was killed in an airstrike on Sunday.

The Taliban militants have mounted their activities in Badakhshan province recently. The mounting insecurity in Yamgan district of the province has forced hundreds of families to leave their houses.

Reports recently surfaced that Yamgan district of the province has fallen into the Taliban’s hand. However, the acting governor of the province, Shah Wali Adeeb said that security forces have conducted a large-scale operation to retake the district.
