Andarabi Blames Taliban for Growing Violence, Targeted Killings

AT News

KABUL: The Interior Minister, Mohammad Massoud Andarabi has blamed Taliban for the continued uptick in violence and carrying out targeted killings of civil society activists and journalists across the country.

According to Andarabi, who spoke with foreign media outlets, the Taliban deliberately delayed the peace process and waited for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.

“Taliban are looking for more of their prisoners to be released and trying to impose their own ideology on governance by escalating violence and targeted killings,” Mr. Andarabi added.

The Taliban are not committed to the 19-year-old hard-won gains and values of the Afghan people and they want to wipe out these achievements by increasing violence, he added.

“We have rendered immense sacrifices for the protection of these values, but the Taliban are seemingly having any regard for the values and gains,” Andarabi added.

The Taliban group has not commented on the contention so far, but earlier it has stressed the need for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan through talks.
