KABUL: The Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Sunday said that the Afghan National Army (ANA) have discovered and defused 4,776 Improvised Explosive Devices IEDs across the country during the last six months.

The ministry in a statement said that the IEDs were planted by the Taliban on public roads, residential areas and highways.

IEDs and other explosive devices are one of the main factors behind civilian casualties. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) had risked their lives to discover and neutralize planted mines to protect the innocent Afghans, defense ministry said.

Lives of thousands of civilians were saved and hundreds Kms of roads and hundreds of bridges and culverts were preserved as a result of defusing these IEDs and bombs, the ministry added.

Although, the indiscriminate use of IEDs is in serious violation of the International Human Rights Law, but unfortunately, the Taliban continue applying it as a war tactic against the Afghan population in the country.
