Army pound rebel hideouts as peace talks pick up pace

KABUL: Security and army troops carried out in the last day heroic operations which led to clearing many areas of rebels, as negotiations between Afghan politicians and the Taliban over the future of Afghanistan are taking momentum.

The army, police and intelligence forces killed at least eight Taliban insurgents and wounded sevenothers in raids over different areas of Kapisa, Ghazni, Kandahar, Herat, Balkh, Jawzjan and Helmand provinces, said the Defense Ministry on Wednesday.

Afghan National and Defense Security forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations in the past 24 hours, four Taliban fighters were killed and seven others wounded in Baghlan Markazi district of Baghlan and two militants were killed in marja district of Helmand province.

Similar, two militants were killed in airstrike in Garmsir district of Helmand.

In past 24 hours, 12planed clearing operations,and 82Special Forcesoperations conducted in different provinces; also, Air forces conducted 28aerial operations supporting Afghan National army includingone strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

ANAdiscovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.

ANA as the nation’s defense forces are ready to give sacrifice to bring lasting peace and security to the people and are determined to eradicate terror groups in Afghanistan.
