Attack on registration center kills a policeman

AT-KABUL: Unidentified gunmen attacked a voter registration center in central Logar province on Sunday, killing one policeman, said an official. Attacks on voter registration centers have fueled concerns ahead of elections scheduled for October.

The attack occurred in the Pashtunabad locality of Pul-i-Alamthe provincial capital in the morning, said Police spokesman Shapoor Ahmadzai. And as a result, one policeman was killed as the attackers faced a strong response from the security forces.

The voter registration center was cordoned off, but residents say that security forces have now taken control of the area.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the incident.

The incident occurred as militants have targeted election centers in Kabul, Logar, Khost and several other areas, raising doubts over a successful holding of elections.
