Australian kidnapped aid worker freed

KABUL: Australian aid worker, Kerry Jane Wilson, who was abducted in Jalalabad city in Nangarhar province four month ago, was rescued in a special operation carried by National Security of Directorate (NDS) operatives on Sunday night, provincial official said on Monday.

Conforming the report, Provincial Governor Spokesman Ataullah Khogiani said that she is in Jalalabad city right now. “She is safe and well.”

He added that a number of suspects were also arrested in connection to the abduction in the operation. “Currently, investigation is underway to have clearerimage of the incident,” he said, without giving further details.

NDS also in a statement said that its operatives released an Australian aid worker during a special operation carried out in Nangarharprovince last night (Sunday night).

“Afghan National Defense and Security Forces are determined to provide security for its citizen, and institutions, and also to foreign civilians, especially to the charitable institutions that helps needy people in Afghanistan,” the statement added.

“We seriously fight against all those people and groups that disrupt public order and threaten the security of towns and villages,” the statement furthered.
