Breakthrough in counterterrorism sweeps: 288 insurgents killed

AT News Report-KABUL: At least 288 insurgents were killed in extensive crackdown raids across 18 provinces in the past week. Afghan army along with the police and intelligence forces had carried out some 9 anti-terrorist operations to rid militants from Taliban-controlled areas and disrupt their operations, said a statement of the interior ministry.

The ministry said that 53 insurgents have been arrested in the operations that have been carried out in Kandahar, Uruzgan, Helmand, Ghor, Farah, Faryab, Parwan, Kapisa, Nangarhar, Paktiya, Ghazni, Paktika, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Zabul, Jowzjan, Kunduz and Badakhshan provinces, as a result, 288 armed insurgents were killed, 121 wounded.

ANDSF seized 30 different types of weapons, 28 different types of IEDs and five vehicles as well, added statement. The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have stepped up Counter-Terrorism operations to suppress the insurgency activities of the terror groups, underlined the statement.
