Cancer rates on rise in Afghanistan

KABUL: A cancer organization says that the number of Afghans suffering from deadly disease of cancer has recently increased more than any other time.

It said on Monday that there were two centers for cancer treatment in Afghanistan that are not enough to meet the problems of all cancer patients.

Meanwhile, the national environment department says polluted air is directly linked with cancer. The department says that air pollution, alcoholic beverages, cigarette smoking and lack of physical activities are the main elements of cancer.

Earlier, public health authorities had said that averagely 20,000 people are afflicted with cancer every year.
