Commission starts investigating Jalrez carnage

KABUL: The commission tasked by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to investigate the Jalrez district tragedy in central Maidan Wardak province has formally started work, a statement from the President Palace said on Sunday.

Last Thursday, heavily-armed insurgents stormed and seized several police check posts and later killed 24 Afghan Local Policemen (ALP) men mercilessly in central Maidan Wardak.

However, officials said security forces regained control of security check posts that overran by insurgents.

The statement said that president had nominated a delegation to assiduously probe the incident from every aspect.

The president recommended the delegation to review the casualties in Jalrez incident in coordination with governor, provincial council members, religious scholars, local elders and stakeholders and shared a detailed report with the presidency. (PAN)
