Conflicting figures: Kabul Mosque Attack: AIHRC puts death toll to 40 killed, over 90 wounded

AT-KABUL: Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has put the number of people killed during mosque attack to 40, while over 90 others received injuries.

Expressing deepest concern over attack on holy places like mosque, AHIRC in a statement on Saturday, said suicide attack on prayers of Imam Zaman mosque have killed 40 people and wounded over 90 others. The attack took place during Friday praying.

But this figures yet to confirm by security and health officials. “28 people killed and over 50 received injures in the attack,” Ismail Kawosi, Spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said.

Attacking holy places like mosque, and targeting prayers is an inhuman and illegal act, which is absolutely in contrary with Islamic teachings,” the agency added.

AIHRC seriously asked insurgents not to target holy places (mosque), prayers and civilians. “Do not commit further war crimes and crimes against humanity,” AIHRC told militants.

Furthermore, the AIHRC asked judicial and law enforcement agencies, in particularly the security forces to identify and prosecute the perpetrators of this heinous crime amid at safeguarding safety of the citizens.

It was during Friday praying time, around 01:00pm local time, when suicide attackers stormed Imam Zaman mosque in Qala-e-Najarha of Police District 11 of Kabul city, and opened fire on prayers.

Immediately after attack, the Islamic State (IS), also known as Daesh terrorist claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Afghan security forces took instant measure pulling out over 100 trapped prayers from the mosque.

Police Special Unit after coordinated off the area, killed all the terrorists within four hours. Interior Ministry Spokesman, Najib Danish confirmed casualties inflicted to the Afghan civilians and security personnel. At least 10 people have been killed and 30 others wounded in Kabul mosque attack, Danish said. He also confirmed killing of three security forces, while eight others wounded in the attack.

However, still there is no exact confirmation that how many suicide attackers were behind this heinous act, and also how many prayers were killed and wounded in the attack.
