AT News Report

KABUL: President Ghani’s Special Envoy and Head of High Peace Council’s Secretariat said that they will invite the Taliban group to take part in the upcoming Loya Jirga for Peace, where they would discuss ongoing peace efforts.

The Grand Consultative Jirga on Peace has been scheduled for April 29th, where at least 2,500 delegates are expected to attend the assembly from around the country where they will determine the path towards peace.

“Hopefully, we will officially invite the Taliban to attend (the Jirga) and if they attend, our stance will become a joint and national stance,” Daudzai quoted by TOLONews.

Moreover, he said that current peace talks between US and Taliban could be prolonged further.

“Fifth round of talks could go on to sixth and seventh round of negotiations, I as an Afghan say that the Intra-Afghan dialogues should be held as soon as possible,” he said.

The remarks made when the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad arrived in Kabul on Monday, where he discussed peace talks with President Ashraf Ghani and other government officials including influential figures.

The fifth round of peace talks between US and Taliban were held on February 25th that took 16-day for Khalilzad to finally ink or at least come to a conclusion to some points with the Taliban group.
