AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A US drone strike has killed a dozen Taliban militants including nine foreigners in Nangarhar province, officials said on Sunday.
The governor’s spokesman Ahmad Zai Abdulzai said that the strike was carried out in Khogyani district late Saturday, killing a dozen militants including nine foreigners, believed to be Pakistanis.
A Taliban shadow district chief for Khogyani and another commander were among those dead in the attack.
Abdulzai said that nearly 150 insurgents have been killed or wounded during the two-week operation in Achin district. Confirming the drone strike, provincial police chief spokesman, Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal said that some foreign militants have been killed in the attack. The eastern Nangarhar province has been considered the hotbed of the ISIL (Daesh) terrorists, who, sporadically engage with Taliban militants in skirmishes. Their turf war has unleashed reign of terror in the province, particularly in Haska Mena, Achin and recently in Nazyan areas of the province.
