Enikass TV Fires Women Workers after Deadly Attacks

AT News

KABUL: The Enikass private TV broadcaster fired its women workers after four of their women colleagues were killed in three attacks in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

The women workers have been told to stay in their homes until improvement in security situation.

Three women workers of the TV were killed this week in two separate attacks by unknown gunmen in Jalalabad city, provincial capital. The incident came two months after another woman journalist Malala Maiwand also working for Enikas broadcaster was killed along with her driver in the same city.

Zalmay Latifi, head of the broadcaster, said Sunday that they made the decision for security of their colleagues as security threats are rising against media workers.

He said it was a compulsory decision and would affect parts of their activities.

Nobody claimed responsibility for killing three women who were working in TV’s dubbing section, but the Daesh terrorist group said it was behind killing of Malala.

NAI, the media supporting agency criticized the decision as “against the law”, saying the TV runners should not deprive women from job just because of security threats.

Around 900 women media workers quitted jobs because of security threats in the past six years across the country, according to official reports.
