AT-HERAT CITY: A four-day exhibition showcasing domestic products kicked off in western Herat province on Tuesday.
Organizers of the event said that the expo will host 50 stalls of a diverse range of products manufactured by 65 domestic factories.
The newly appointed governor of Herat province, Muhammad Asif Rahimi, said that it’s the duty of the incumbent government to promote domestic goods for national and international consumers.
He added that the government stands committed to support domestic products. “Thus, I urge government institutions to prefer local products over imported,” Rahimi said.
Hamidullah Khadim, the chairman of Herat industrialists union, said that the expo was aimed at introducing Afghanistan made products to national and international markets. “Through such trade fairs we want to call on our people to use domestic products instead of imported ones,” he added.
He said that only 200 out of 470 industries in the province are currently active.
Traders who put their goods to display were supportive of the initiatives and hoped that such expos will help them to introduce their products in local markets.
