Exports through Karachi port down by 40pc: ACCI

KABUL: According to the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) officials, Afghanistan’s exports through Karachi port have declined by 40 percent.

The officials have cited the political tensions between the two nations as the main reason behind the decline in exports and alleged that Pakistan’s authorities create obstacles for Afghan traders at the ports.

“Politics and trade should not be mingled. The political issues between Afghanistan and Pakistan have affected our trade,” said ACCI Deputy CEO Tawfiq Dawari.

Some Afghan traders have been exporting their goods through Bandar Abbas port to other countries. Traveling through the Bandar Abbas port costs the traders more time and money.

Traders urged the government to address the trade issue with Pakistan and claimed that their foods products had rotten at Pakistan’s ports where they were stopped by the Pakistani authorities for unjustified reasons.—(Wadsam)
