Fight against ISIS should be led by Afghan forces: Lawmakers

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A number of Wolesi Jirga members and experts said that fight against the ISIS, also known as Daesh, should be led by Afghan security forces.

They said that if the United States and international forces want to conduct a joint war against ISIS in Afghanistan, then the war should be led by Afghan security forces.

The Second Deputy Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga, Nazir Ahmadzai told reporters on Monday if Afghanistan is considered as a good land for elimination of ISIS, then the international community should equip Afghan forces with modern weapons.

“A coalition against ISIS is important in Afghanistan. We can defeat ISIS, only if we have a strong air force. The regional countries should help Afghanistan to develop a strong air force,” he added.

He said that Daesh is not an Afghan phenomenon and is a threat to the entire world.

This comes at a time that, The US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, during a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani recently stressed on regional and global cooperation in fight against the ISIS.

Mirdad Khan Nejrabi, a member of the internal security committee of Wolesi Jirga, told Azadi Radio that any fight against ISIS and the Taliban will yield in positive results for Afghanistan. He said that foreign forces have targeted hideouts of militants and have killed several leaders of ISIS.

Jawed Kohistani, a security analyst, also believe that a joint fight against ISIS can only be successful, if it is led by Afghan security forces. “If a coalition is being formed against ISIS in Afghanistan, then it should be under the leadership of Afghan forces,” he stressed.
