Flood sweeps away homes, crops in Nimroz

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Flash floods destroyed several villages and swept away standing crops in the Chakhansur district of southwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Saturday.

Mohammad Fazli, the town’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghanha village was completely destroyed while another 50 villages were badly affected by the overnight flooding.

“Roads connecting the district with provincial capital had been cut off and residents had left their homes, seeking shelter in safe places,” he added.

Mohammad Jumma, a resident of Afghanha village, said, “I was only able to rescue my children and left behind all households which were destroyed by the flood.”

Local official said a delegation on headed by deputy governor Mohammad Qasim Khedri had reached the district to assess the damage and consider ways how to assist the affected people.
