AT-KABUL: First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum has handled operations in the northern province of Kunduz, his office announced Tuesday.
Taliban insurgents entered the Kunduz city Monday after launching a massive offensive from four directions and captured some parts of the city.
Dostum’s office said in a statement that he organized a meeting in the ministry of defense late Monday as the Taliban intensified attacks on Kunduz.
The meeting focused on the provinces that are under the Taliban threat including Helmand, Uruzgan and Kunduz.
Dostum was reported to coordinate operations with the army’s deputy chief of staff Gen. Murad Ali Murad.
Fresh troops reached the area and heavy clashes between the security forces and the insurgents were underway, in different area of Zakhil, Ali Khel, Bagh Sherkat, Charkhab, and Alchin districts, according to reports.
