AT-KABUL: Germany is mulling to expand the presence of its troops in Afghanistan, bringing the total number from 850 to 980 by next year, said the German politicians Thursday.
The German politicians said that the government is willing to deploy more troops to Afghanistan as the security situation deteriorates in Afghanistan.
The politicians said that the declaration of troops deployment came at a time when militants enroots and unprecedented number of Afghans flee their country to Europe and in particular to Germany to escape war and have secure future in Europe.
The resolution of troops deployment is yet to pass from the parliament of Germany, said the politicians.
The Defense Ministry in Berlin said that the number of fresh troops is not yet confirmed, adding, “The plan of the approval is currently being circulated among the ministries.”
The new deployment of troops will also provide military assistance to Afghan security forces and will not fight insurgents directly, the politicians said.
