Ghani assures to do everything to stop river waters from going waste

AT-President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday said the waters of Afghanistan’s river basins will be stopped from going waste in neighboring countries and he will ensure that farmers in Afghanistan utilise them.

He said that the river waters flowing unrestrictedly to other countries will be stopped and that the government is committed to taking action to make that happen.

“I will not allow even a drop of this water to be wasted and I am committed to this,” he said addressing an inauguration ceremony of an agro expo.

About expansion of trade with the rest of the world, Ghani asserted that the government was considering opening air corridors with many countries.

“Afghanistan has invested $800,000 in Afghan-India air corridor, through which merchandise worth $70 million have thus far been exported,” he said.

He urged farmers to work with national unions to export their products, as fruits are often rotten due to lack of inaccessibility to state-of-the-art technology and

He urged the government institutions to use homegrown fruits and vegetables instead of imported ones and forge contractual partnerships with farmers.

“We should be proud of the quality of our exports and investors and entrepreneurs should invest in the agricultural sector,” he urged.
