KABUL: The government sent a team to investigate the latest unrest in the Behsood district of Wardak province, where the security forces are blamed for killing a number of civilians during a demonstration.

The National Security Council said Tuesday that the team had met provincial officials, tribal elders and residents of the area to hear their views and complaints.

The statement said the delegation led by Ibadullah Ibad deputy of the National Security Advisor arrived in Behsood and began investigation regarding the incident.

“The delegation started investigation on the incident and will share the results with the media after the investigation is completed,” said Abdul Rahman Tareq, provincial governor of Wardak.

“The delegation met with security officials and heard the views and complaints of the people regarding the incident,” said Ahmad Jafari a member of the provincial council.

The ministry of interior said that nine people were killed and 16 others wounded including security forces in clash with illegal armed men related to Alipur a local militia commander in the province on 30 January.

Tareq Arian spokesman for the interior ministry told newsmen that the provincial police chief went to the area to establish check-points in the first and second area of the district and introduce the new police chief to the district when they confronted illegal armed men of Alipur.

But residents of the area denied Mr. Aryan remarks, saying all the victims of the incident were protesters who were killed after security forces started firing on them.
