Govt. employee assassinated in Kabul

KABUL: Unknown gunmen killed Mohammad Ismail Sahak, head of the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) in Paghman district of Kabul province on Wednesday morning, security official said.

Kabul Police Spokesman, Ferdaws Faramarz said the incident involving shooting occurred at 6:30AM local time in the Qala Wazir area of Paghman.

Investigation has been launched into the incident to bring the culprits to justice, Farazmarz assured.

NSIA director of Information and Public Relations, Masoud Alishangi confirmed the assassination of Mr. Sahak on his Facebook page.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Targeted-killings of prominent individuals, government officials, civil society activists and journalists have been intensified recently across the country. No group claimed responsibility for such attacks but the government blamed the Taliban behind targeted-killings and spike in the magnetic bomb blasts.
