Govt. eyes building agro farm to boost agriculture yields in Paktika
AT-KABUL: An agricultural farm will be built in Sherana city in southern Paktika province, officials said Sunday, a project that will help boost agriculture yields in the southern region often stereotyped as volatile.
Provincial officials on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the farm,a milestone and modern project which will be built with a total cost of 11 million afghanis.
In his address in the inaugural ceremony, Provincial Agriculture Director Noorullah Sabawoon said that the agriculture farm will be established in 24 acres of land with modern irrigation water and solar system within the next three months.
He said the government plans to train the farmers who will be working in the agro farm which, he said, will produce many different spices of saplings.
A statement quoted Paktika Governor Mohammad Elyas Wahdat as saying that the farm will be a part of the government’s initiative to boost up agriculture harvests in the province and will be under the framework of the Provincial Agriculture Directorate.
Pointing to ongoing agriculture projects, Wahdat said that huge reconstruction and rehabilitation projects worth 140 million afghanis will be rolled out in Urgon and Sherana in weeks.
