Govt. insists on ‘complete release’ of security forces from Taliban custody

KABUL: The government emphasizes on the release of all security force from Taliban jails, saying it would be the main element of prisoner swap.

Taliban had earlier vowed to release 1,000 soldiers and police they have in custody in return of the release of their 5,000 comrades from government jails.

“The complete release of security forces is very important for the government and people of Afghanistan,” Sediq Sediqqi, Spokesman for President Ghani said Sunday.

He said that the government share details about the exact number of released imprisoned insurgents and those still in custody by Monday after comprehensive assessments.

Sediqqqi added that they were committed to the intra-Afghan talks and end of the long war in Afghanistan.

The government says it has released about 4,000 Taliban prisoners. The militants have so far released some 700 government forces.
