KABUL: Noor-e-Khoda, police chief of the Seyah Gerd district of Parwan province was shot dead along with his bodyguard in the adjacent province of Kapisa, officials in Kapisa confirmed.
The incident took place late Monday in Mahmoud Raqi district, provincial capital, according to Abdul Shayeq Kohestani, police spokesman of Kapisa.
Kohestani said that Noor-e-Khoda was heading from Sayyad district to Mahmoud Raqi city that unknown armed men at an ambush opened fire at his vehicle in Qala –e-Sher Khan area of Mahmoud Raqi.
Noor-e-Khoda’s another bodyguard was injured during a fire exchange with the attackers.
The attackers left the area, according to Kohestani who said that provincial police have started an investigation to identify and detain the assailants.
Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Targeting security officers and other government employees has been intensified across the country, with Taliban claiming responsibility for some of them, while some others are claimed by the Daesh terrorist group.
