Heavy clashes continue between security forces, Taliban in Kunar

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Local officials in eastern Kunar province on Tuesday said heavy clashes are ongoing between security forces and the Taliban fighters following the rebels’ major attacks in Marwa district.

Kunar Police Chief, Abdul Habib Sayid Kheli, told newsmen that the Taliban militants launched a coordinated attack on security check posts in central and remote areas of Marwa on Tuesday morning.

He said the clashes still continue where at least 14 Taliban have been killed and 17 others have been wounded so far.

Meanwhile, the Taliban rebels claimed that heavy casualties were incurred to Afghan security forces during the battle. The group claimed that only three Taliban fighters were killed and four others were injured.

The attack in comes after the Taliban’s subversive activities have increased in parts of the country.

The militant group reportedly captured Kohistanat district in northern Sar-i-Pul province. The other day, they seized a check post of local police forces in north-eastern Badakhshan province where scores of Afghan forces surrendered to the group.
