Heavy flashfloods wreak havoc in parts of Wardak

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Heavy flashfloods have reportedly damaged parts of central Maidan Wardak province, including Chak, Sayid Abad, Narkh and Jaghato districts, said local official on Tuesday.

A team has been assigned by the provincial governor to prepare a complete report of damages and present it to the governor.

Initial reports suggest that dozens of homes, canals, protection walls and hundreds of hectare of agricultural lands have been washed away in the flashfloods occurred on Monday night.

Three districts –Sayid Abad, Chak and Narkh –were already heavily hit by flashfloods two days back which was incurred damage to thousands of hectares of agricultural lands. Besides that the flashfloods have reportedly left hundreds of homes damaged.

Wardak governor, Hayatullah Hayat, prodded aid organizations to help the flood-hit areas.

He said they have recorded 2,000 hectares of damaged agricultural land in Narkh, 216 homes and 45 hectares of agricultural land in Sayed Abad and 53 homes in Chak district.

It is said that aid stuffs have been collected for the flood-hit areas but officials say the aid is not sufficient.
