Hordes of militants dead in offensives, airstrikes

AT-KABUL: At least 171 militants have been killed and 126 more wounded in past day after Afghan defense forces assailed the militant strongholds across several regions. The joint offensives were supported by aerial bombardments.

Afghan army in close cooperation with the police and intelligence officers have conducted crackdown offensives to rid certain restive areas in Laghman, Kapisa, Ghazni, Paktika, Kandahar, Zabul, Urzgan, Farah, Baghlan, Faryab, Kunduz and Helmand provinces of militants.

In a press release issued on Sunday, Afghanistan’s defense ministry said more than 171 insurgents including six Daesh affiliates were killed and 126 others wounded. Some 11 insurgents have also been detained and handed over to the judiciary for further inquiries.

During these operations, 54 Taliban fighters were killed, 11 others wounded and some ammunition destroyed in Maiwand district of Kandahar, 43 insurgents killed, 77 wounded and five others arrested in Yangi Qala, Darqad and Khwaja Bahwdin districts of Takhar, 42 rebels were killed and 30 others were wounded in Balablok district of Farah, 10 terrorists were killed, four wounded and five others arrested in Nahr-e-Saraj, Nadali and Washir districts of Helmand, two strongholds destroyed along with some ammunition in the provinces as well.

Similar, six Daesh fighters were killed and another arrested with a rifle of weapon in Nazian and Kama districts of Nangarhar, four insurgents killed in Tangi Abrishom district of Kabul, three Taliban fighters killed and two other wounded in Nejrab district of Kapisa, three rebels were killed and two others wounded in Andar district of Ghazni

In past 24 hours, 12 planned clearance offensives, 21 Special Forces operations have been conducted in 10 provinces. Moreover, Afghan air forces have provided aerial support to the army and conducted 70 aerial operations including 13 strikes on militant sanctuaries. Weapons and ammunitions have been confiscated during the operations.
