IEC warns against premature election campaigns

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Media committee of the Independent Election Commission has told candidates to refrain from early election campaigns, warning it will prosecute the violators.

The IEC media panel addressing a press conference on Monday said the candidates who will be throwing their hats in the ring for the forthcoming polls are advised to refrain from early campaigns and abide by the electoral law.

Head of the committee, Rafi Rafiq Seddiqi, said, “The candidates who trample the law will be barred from running in the looming vote.

The commission said it will also monitor activities of media during the elections.

“If media outlets act against the law, legal action will be taken against them,” the commission said.

The panel warned media to desist from host candidates for political debates ahead of elections.

“We urge the government and security forces to tighten security for media officials in the gathering and dissemination of information,” it said.
